Partnership

BioSFerA benefits of the knowledge exchange and the collaboration with other EU-funded projects dealing with similar topics. Together, we move on the same direction to achieve the common goals of sustainability and carbon neutrality.

CO2SMOS

CO2SMOS (Solutions for a circular bio-based industry) is a Horizon2020 project that develops a platform of innovative and cost-competitive technologies to transform the carbon emissions of bio-based industries into added-value bioproducts: durable polymers, renewable biochemicals and biodegradable materials. With these compounds, it is possible to produce greener end-products (such as packaging, coatings, and textiles). CO2SMOS solutions will help bio-based industries to replace fossil-based chemicals with more sustainable ones using renewable sources (green H2 and biomass) and CO2 as main raw materials.

GLAMOUR

GLAMOUR (GLycerol to Aviation and Marine prOducts with sUstainable Recycling) is a H2020 research project to demonstrate the conversion of bio-waste feedstock such as glycerol into jetfuel and marine diesel oil by combining two technologies: Syngas generation with inherent CO2 removal using gas solid reactions. Compact Fischer-Trospsch process with 3D printed catalyst.

The consortium includes two universities, three large research centres and 5 industries (including SMEs) which will combine fundamental knowledge on gas-solid and catalytic reactions, material design and engineering process design, economics, environmental analysis, societal and policy making decision.

VIVALDI

As a response to the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, VIVALDI (VIVALDI TURNS CO2 EMISSIONS INTO SUSTAINABLE BIOPRODUCTS) project develops an innovative, sustainable and cost-efficient biotechnological solution to convert off-gas emissions from bio-based Industries into CO2-based chemicals. In this way, the industry’s greenhouse gases emissions will not only be reduced, but will be used as a novel feedstock, lowering the dependency on fossil fuels import and the exploitation of key resources such as energy, raw material, freshwater and land.

FlexSNG

FlexSNG (Flexible Production of Synthetic Natural Gas and Biochar via Gasification of Biomass and Waste Feedstocks) is a jointly funded Horizon 2020 project that aims at fostering international collaboration between the European Union and Canada in the strategic sectors of bioenergy and biofuels. The overall objective of the H2020 FlexSNG project is to develop and validate (TRL5) a flexible and cost-effective gasification-based process for the production of pipeline-quality biomethane, high-value biochar and renewable heat from a wide variety of low-quality biomass residues and biogenic waste feedstocks.

CLARA

The aim of CLARA (CHEMICAL LOOPING GASIFICATION FOR SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION OF BIOFUELS) is to develop a concept for the production of biofuels based on chemical looping gasification of biogenic residues. Through cutting-edge research and interdisciplinary cooperation, the CLARA consortium, consisting of thirteen international members including universities, research institutes and industrial partners, aims to investigate the complete biomass-to-fuel chain and bring the suggested process to market maturity.

PYROCO2

PYROCO2 project, funded by the European Union Horizon 2020’s research and innovation programme, will demonstrate the scalability and economic viability of carbon capture and utilization (CCU) using the innovative PYROCO2 bioprocess. Aim is to produce climate-positive acetone out of industrial CO2 and renewable electricity derived hydrogen, as a platform for manufacturing chemicals and materials with a negative carbon footprint.
